The emperor who was full of himself, wanting the best clothes was eventually embarrassed in a parade wearing no clothes. When it comes to your iPhone: naked is better. I’ve always had a suspicion of cases for phones. They cost so much and do so little. The do not protect your phone from scratches, instead they are known to scratch your phone. Theoretically cases prevent the screen from breaking. They probably do, in most circumstances but not all of them.
Statistically speaking, the odds are your smartphone’s screen will break sooner if it is not protected with a case. My argument is that the cost of a broken screen is less than that of a case. A decent case will cost you around $50 and adds a few ounces and in some cases inches to your phones total dimensions and weight. There are several decent iPhone accessories that work only with a ‘naked’ iPhone, these are usually extremely less expensive than specialized cases. Replacing the screen on an iPhone 3GS costs around $50 if done by an independent professional (ie: an individual who advertises services on craigslist) and can be replaced in less than 5min. The glass part of the iPhone 3GS can be purchased for less than $5! Why do we buy cases? I can understand an industrial or construction worker, who risks more serious damage to their phone on a daily basis, may want to protect their phone. The average consumer, unless they suffer from Parkinson’s, can take simple actions to mitigate the risk and save money while enjoying more intimacy with their naked iPhone. For the most part, the emperor’s who spend their money on clothes are being ripped off, and may in some cases be ridiculed.
