My life as a Pterippi

I cannot fly. I must stress this point, because many people seem to believe we Pterippi can simply flap our wings and be off, like an eagle. This is not the case, you see; unlike the eagle, my bones are not hollow. I would not want hollow bones, they are so fragile, I would not be able to run! Oh, how I love to run, and jump! That’s when I use my wings, to jump! a little higher, a little further.

There are many practical uses for my wings, they are warm, I use them to cover myself in the rain, or snow. Of course they are also very useful when fending of those pesky flys!

As I mentioned before, I cannot stand still and beat my wings until my hooves are free from the earth, but I can run! One of my favorite tricks is to find a tall cliff, with a steep drop. I charge the precipice, feeling the full force of the wind on my maine, and just as I reach the edge I leap with all the might of my legs. For a single moment, my body hangs in the air, defying the will of the gods, for a moment I am completely relaxed, there is no muscle in my body that is necessary.

In this moment I am at peace, then I fall. I fall to the earth below me, the rush of the air around me drowns out all my senses as I drive to the earth, the rocks below threaten with all of their malice. Just before their threats can be effective, I throw my rear hooves toward them, raise my neck to the sky and spread my wings to their full span, and settle myself gracefully to the ground bellow.
