2 Comments Got ? Milk
The LA Times posted this interesting report on diferent milks, and it got me thinking.
Lets Look at the differnt Milks in this article:
Cows Milk: There is a reason to drink it, but you should probably be drinking skim milk which, bang for buck gives you a great drink with little animal fat.
Goat Milk: If you your looking for a fatty drink with lots of protien goats put the cows to shame.
Soy: Not a bad alternative to animal milk, with its high protein content. Still its higher in calories than skim milk. Whats this about a high Sugar content?
Rice: No saturated fat, yet still fortified with the vitamins you need. Not to many added sweeteners. The down side is there is little to no protein.
Almond: It looks like almonds are getting the raw deal as a milk substitue… big turn off: no calcium.
Hemp: I dont live in California anymore, It would be way to complex to even consider trying to find this product.
Im going to have to stop by my local store and see what the prices for these are before I make a judgement; Im probably going for rice, or Skim(from a local dairy, if its worth the cost) I would consider soy, but it is already a major part of my diet.
UHHHHHHHHHH Im not really the soy milk or goat mmilk type. All i really drink is cow milk. What does rice and hemp and almonds have to do with milk? What do you consider eggs. i mean they fall under the meat family right?
Hi there Grace,
Rice, and seeds (almonds, hemp, soy) can be ground up and added to water. Then other vitamins are usually added, like calcium.
They really are not milk, but they substitute milk, so people call it “rice milk” when its really rice water with added calcium.
There are alot of substutues for Cows Milk, and people drink them for many differant reasons.
I am a vegetarian, this means I don’t eat meat. I do drink cows milk, and eat eggs. These are considered “animal products” because they come from animals, but don’t require the animals to die in order for me to eat them.
